LyondellBasell, a leader in the global chemical industry, has collaborated with NTT and Celona to architect and integrate a private 5G local area network (LAN) within its manufacturing plant networks.
“Deploying private 5G networks across our manufacturing sites provides critical connectivity that enables our digital solutions, resulting in increased operating efficiency and enhanced safety measures,” said Kathy VanLandingham, LyondellBasell’s CIO.
Some of the key objectives and use cases that the private 5G network will enable include:
One of the key objectives is to provide a secure 5G network overlay across all of LyondellBasell’s global manufacturing facilities. The private 5G network will achieve operational excellence for LyondellBasell by enabling better data visibility, control, and security across the company’s operations. LyondellBasell also plans to leverage the enhanced connectivity provided by the private 5G network to help drive initiatives under its Value Enhancement Program. With reliable 5G communications extended to outdoor areas of manufacturing sites, workforce productivity will be improved for employees working in those locations. Furthermore, the private 5G network will enhance workplace safety and emergency response capabilities through the use of push-to-talk applications over the secure wireless network. Additionally, the advanced connectivity solutions contribute to LyondellBasell’s environmental, social, and governance goals focused on sustainability and social responsibility.
